S\u0142awomir Wa\u0142\u0119sa was one of eight children of Danuta and Lech Wa\u0142\u0119sa. Although he did not engage in public life like his father, he remained in the headlines for years \u2013 mainly due to his personal problems. At a young age, he began to struggle with alcohol, which eventually developed into a serious addiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In numerous interviews, S\u0142awomir admitted that alcohol was a way for him to overcome shyness \u2013 after a few drinks, he felt more sociable. Unfortunately, over time, addiction took over his life. However, his addiction didn\u2019t help him build a family. He was married twice and had four children, but each relationship fell apart because of his problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The family made numerous attempts to save S\u0142awomir Wa\u0142\u0119sa. At the initiative of his loved ones, the court ordered his compulsory treatment for addiction. However, the man made no secret of the fact that he had no intention of undergoing treatment unless he wanted it himself. After one of his transfers to the hospital in \u015awiecie, he simply left the facility and returned home. He believed that Poland lacked effective treatment methods for addicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Blues transported me to \u015awiecie. They left me with the nurses. The door closed. The nurses didn\u2019t know what to do with me because I\u2019d given them a spear. They had no right to stop me. I left the ward, ate something, and returned to Toru\u0144. \u201cIf I don\u2019t want to go to rehab, I won\u2019t,\u201d he said in an interview with \u201cSuper Express.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For years, S\u0142awomir Wa\u0142\u0119sa lived alone in a studio apartment in Toru\u0144\u2019s Rubinkowo neighborhood, a building notorious for being called \u201cChechnya\u201d by locals. He also struggled with professional exclusion \u2013 a computer scientist by training, he claimed that his name hindered him more often than it helped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reports of his run-ins with the law also appeared in the media \u2013 he allegedly attempted to steal a small item from a store and was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. These incidents only deepened his isolation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the death of his brother Przemys\u0142aw in 2017, Lech Wa\u0142\u0119sa publicly appealed to S\u0142awomir to fight addiction. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, the former president\u2019s son was unable to overcome his addiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
S\u0142awomir Wa\u0142\u0119sa passed away at the age of just 53. We extend our condolences to his family and loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
